Sex Awareness Training

 We at Care Matters Wales believe that sexual sensitivity, sex awareness and quality training around matters of sexuality are essential for all who work with vulnerable clients.

We believe that sensitivity towards clients' sexuality is an essential part of the respect agenda. It is about ensuring they:

*are full citizens equal in status and value to other citizens of the same age;

  *have the same expectations of positive social relations and roles within family and community;

  *have a right to decide for themselves and to join in all decision making which affects their lives, with support if necessary;

  *have access to the support of their families and the communities, of which they are a part, and to general and specialist public services to improve their chosen quality of life.

(Based on the LDAG Report to the National Assembly for Wales, 2001 and the principles first expressed in the All Wales Strategy, and later confirmed in ‘Fulfilling the Promises)

Care Matters Wales can provide bespoke training and awareness raising for staff working with vulnerable clients. This is done with sensitivity and understanding of personal beliefs, ethics and boundaries and the challenges of working in such a difficult area.

Discussions on sexuality and relationships can also be provided for groups of vulnerable people or such individuals who wish to know more about sex and relationships or explore their options and rights in such areas.

Training will be provided by two trainers and will always be appropriate to the needs and backgound of the group.

Topics covered can include:

  *understanding sexuality

  *helping clients making sexual
    choices

  *exploring sexual diversity

  *sex and mental health

  *protecting clients from sexual
    bullying and exploitation

  *sex and the law

  *contraception

  *sex aids
